All of today’s headlight lenses are made of polycarbonate plastic in order to make them impact resistant and easier to mould into specific shapes. The headlight lens coating that is used by manufacturers starts to wear out after a few years, due to harsh UV rays, car exhaust fumes, extreme temperatures and debris. By doing so, it makes the lens look cloudy and foggy, giving it an oxidized appearance.

Along with the discoloration, this deterioration leaves the headlight lens with scratches, pits, and a gritty feel; all of which inhibits the light output necessary for safe night driving. Most people do not know that not only do worn or cloudy headlights look bad, but they also reduce light output by as much as 90%.
