Steering and Suspension

At Edgecliff Automotive, we are your steering and suspension specialists.

If you suspect that there is a problem with your suspension or steering there is no need to go to the dealership and pay the high labour rates. We carry out all suspension and steering repairs at very competitive prices. The steering and suspension components contribute to both the safety of you and your passengers. Suspension components, like coil springs and shock absorbers, help to dampen the impact of the road force and create a smooth and comfortable ride.

Because suspension system components combine into one working unit, if the issues are left untreated, they have the potential to increase the wear and tear on other suspension components, which can create more extensive repairs in the future.

Even though individual parts and components comprising each suspension system vary from vehicle to vehicle, one thing all suspension system components have in common is that they will weaken over time due to the large amount of wear and tear stress that's applied during normal day to day driving conditions.

If left unattended, your steering and suspension components will deteriorate and affect both the performance and handling of your vehicle, putting you and your passengers at risk. If you have concerns or suspicions that you might have a steering or suspension issue, contact us today.

Preventive Maintenance

Our friendly team of experts will be happy to check your vehicle, discuss any issues they might find and provide you with a comprehensive quote for any needed repairs.

Your steering and suspension are inspected during an RMS E-Safety check if the car is more than 5 years old. This inspection is done by an Authorised RMS Inspection Station and it is required for your registration renewal.

If the steering has excessive wear or if the suspension is in poor condition due to some worn components, your inspection result will be a fail. Regular servicing of your steering and suspension components will ensure that they are regularly inspected for wear and tear.

Have you hit a pothole recently?

Potholes can cause bad damage to steering and suspension components which will create uneven tyre wear. If you have noticed your tyres starting to wear out on only one side, or if your steering wheel has started to be off centre, you should think about having your suspension and steering inspected for issues.

At Edgecliff Automotive, we have the necessary equipment to identify and correct all issues related to steering or suspension.

From a shaky or off-center steering wheel to excessive bouncing of the wheels at high or low speeds, these are all cause for getting a steering and suspension system inspection and having any issues addressed as soon as possible.

Shock Absorbers & Springs

One of the key components in your car's suspension are the shock absorbers. Usually hydraulic or filled with gas, they control the bounce on the vehicles.

Shock absorbers serve two important purposes; they make the ride more comfortable for you and your passengers, and also keep the tyres connected firmly on the road to reduce tyre friction.

Damaged or worn out shock absorbers can make brakes less efficient and unsafe, making it harder to stop. The coil springs and shock absorbers, also known as dampeners or struts, are the key components of the suspension system of the car.

Working together, they absorb vibrations and friction caused by potholes or uneven road surfaces. However, the constant vibrations in the springs and struts of the suspension system can make its components become loose or worn out over time, resulting in poor driving control and road handling.

Worn or damaged components can account for unsafe driving and can even result in an accident. Keeping your vehicles steering and suspension system in good condition is important for safe road handling and optimal comfort while driving.
